As a budding alcohol enthusiast, I went through a real phase of cocktail experimentation and enjoyment in my mid-20s, doing my damndest to visit all the best cocktail bars that New York City has to offer. I can say from experience that there are a lot of them, and plenty of them are very good. Plenty of them, are kind of whatever. And nothing stings more than paying $14-18 for a drink that’s just okay.Read More
Every summer growing up, my family took a week-long vacation to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware where one of the highlights, since I can remember, has been my Aunt Kathy's Maryland crab soup. Among our many other family traditions of happy hour at the beach, boardwalk games, ice cream cones, and bike rides, no beach week was complete without one night's dinner being a good ol'-fashioned crab feast, hon. We'd all sit around with corn on the cob, cold beers, and lots of paper towels to engage in Maryland's most famous tradition of crab picking and claw cracking, knowing that while the crabs were certainly fun and delicious, the crab soup that came the day after was the final reward.Read More
Upon my first visit to Iceland's capital city in 2015, it was impossible not to notice that it was a city on the rise and well-aware of its tourist appeal. Call it the Game of Thrones effect. I kind of have a problem with superlatives. They're so finite! Unyielding! Hyperbolic! Who can ever be so sure about anything? Or commit to never changing their minds!? Maybe I'm taking it all a hair too seriously, but I cringe just a little every time I read a list delineating someone's personal preferences as the "BEST" things in any category... (Ok so I'm most certainly taking it too seriously.)Read More
So you wanna live in NYC.
New York City! The Big Apple! The concrete jungle! Home of Jay-Z, Donald Trump, and 8.5 million other people who may or may not be famous. Global destination for fashion, music, and street meat. Hot tourist spot for humans and lizard people the world over. Great place to take Instagram photos of insane milkshakes and stand in line for Cronuts. But also, it's where I live! And have lived since 2004. (Please, hold your applause.)Read More
I can't believe it's already 2016. This time last year, I was having a panic attack as I began planning my month-long trip to Europe. Now, I am counting down the days til Iceland 2.0 - I'm going at the beginning of February with my cousin for a second road trip around the country.
I've been meaning for quite a while to write a more thorough account of my first trip there, and have obviously just not gotten around to it. Anyhoo, what better time than the present (months after the actual experience)!Read More
